Abstract
Several of the species of prawns of marine origin as well as some of the species of freshwater origin have a common brackishwater phase in their Life history. As a result of this many of these species occur in large numbers in all the estuaries and backwaters of India in their postlarval and juvenile stages. The distribution of these species in the major brackish water environments of the country has been studied with reference to their composition and seasonal abundance.
