Abstract

It gives me immense pleasure to present this issue, showcasing ICARCMFRI's sustained commitment to advancing marine fisheries research, fostering innovation, strengthening partnerships and supporting evidence-based policies for the sustainable development of India's marine fisheries sector. A major highlight is the successful implementation of the Marine Fisheries Census 2025, the country's first fully digital, geo-referenced census of marine fisher households, establishing a robust foundation for informed fisheries governance. Another significant milestone was ICAR-CMFRI's contribution to the marine mammal stock assessment project, which helped India achieve compliance with internationally recognised marine mammal protection standards. This issue also highlights MECOS4, which brought together scientists, policymakers, industry leaders and international experts to address marine ecosystem challenges. Equally encouraging are our outreach, capacity-building and livelihood initiatives benefiting coastal communities nationwide, reaffirming ICAR-CMFRI's commitment to a sustainable Blue Economy through science, innovation and collaboration.
