Abstract

Modern aquaculture faces a significant challenge in balancing sustainable growth with the rising costs and environmental impact of conventional fish meal. An innovative circular-economy approach was developed by ICAR–CMFRI that uses Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae to transform organic waste into high-value aquafeed ingredients and nutrient-rich organic compost. This technology not only addresses waste management concerns but also provides a nutritious, cost-effective and sustainable protein source for the aquaculture industry
