Abstract

This manual was written for that guide. It gathers, in one place, the working knowledge that ICAR–Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute has built over decades of studying Kerala’s coast, its oceanography and tides, its fish and fisheries, its corals, mangroves and marine mammals, its seabirds and backwaters, its aquaculture farms and export harbours, and, more recently, its emerging dive sites. Each chapter was shaped by scientists who spend their working lives in exactly these habitats, and then rebuilt, chapter by chapter, into a single, consistent form: grounded enough to be trusted, and plain enough to be spoken aloud on a moving boat to a group of curious strangers.
