Abstract

Krishi Vigyan Kendras are district level units of Indian Council of Agricultural Research functioning with major objective of district level agricultural development by spreading latest technologies among farmers. In order to achieve this larger objective, KVK has experts from all fields of Agriculture. The area of operation of Krishi Vigyan Kendra of ICAR – Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute is Ernakulam district. This KVK has been working for the agricultural development of Ernakulam district since 1976. Major achievements of this KVK are popularisation of prawn culture, mussel culture, cage fish farming, open precision farming, rain shelter farming, Kadaknath poultry, setting up of satellite seed production centres, introduction of package for revival of Pokkali farming system, etc. Currently, KVK is giving thrust towards quality control of organic farming inputs. There is a sales counter functioning at CMFRI to supply quality inputs to farmers. KVK has formed a task force to set up home vegetable garden with a view to support the organic vegetable farming initiatives in the district.
