Abstract
Regular algal cell counting is essential to schedule the inoculation of mass culture from the containers, to know the growth of the algae and to determine the quantity of algae to be fed to the larval organisms. Most of the nannoplankton organisms are less than 10 µm, counting is normally done in Sedgwick Rafter Counting Chamber or Haemocytometers or Neubauer Neubauer’s Chamber ’s Chamber. It is a specialized thick glass slide . used to count the eukaryotic cell suspension. Haemocytometer has a size of 30 X 70 X 4 mm. Its central portion is ruled, where the cell counting is performed. The counting grid has a size of 3 mm X 3 mm. One can estimate the number of cells using a haemocytometer after diluting the sample. It has Nine large squares Nine large squares have an overall width of 3 mm; Twenty-five medium squares in -five medium squares each large square have a width of 0.25 mm and Sixteen small squares in Sixteen small squares each medium square have a width of 0.05 mm.
