Abstract
15 families belonging to the Scheduled Caste community in Kerala’s Kodungallur reaped a bumper harvest of mussels with the support of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute. The farming became a huge success, with two self-help groups getting a yield of 1.7 tonnes of mussels. Aimed at uplifting the living standards of the SC families, CMFRI installed two mussel farms made of GI pipes for members of 15 SC families in December last year and offered all the scientific and technical support, enabling the community to engage in sustainable aquaculture.
