Abstract
Bioactive compounds from marine macroalgae are gaining immense attention for their application as natural ingredients in various nutraceuticals and food supplements. In India, marine algae have found their application not only in pharmaceuticals but also in agriculture sectors. Among the varieties of abundantly available species in India, marine algae belonging to the classes Phaeophyceae and Florideophyceae were found to possess potential bioactive compounds. In particular, marine algae belonging to the subclasses Dictyotophycidae, Fucophycidae and Rhodymeniophycidae are underexplored species, requiring detailed studies.
