Abstract
The marine fisheries sector is a significant contributor to the economic growth story of the country by way of its contribution to sustainable fish production from wild and sea farming. The fish exports, domestic fish trade and livelihoods sustenance in the production as well as processing sectors hinge on support from fisheries research and technology transfer programmes as much as from governance and policy space. ICAR-CMFRI has been attending to the needs of the marine fisheries sector by focussing on fishery stakeholders' meets, sea ranching programmes, extending technology support for mariculture activities including indigenous seaweed farming, bivalve and finfish seed production and cage farming ventures, promoting the well-being of the marine environment through awareness campaigns and outreach programmes. Let's hope that it makes a positive impact on all stakeholders in the days ahead.
