Abstract
The ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), headquartered at Kochi, Kerala is a premier research establishment undertaking marine fisheries and mariculture research in the country. From a humble beginning in 1947 at Madras and subsequently at Mandapam Camp, Tamil Nadu, the institute has grown significantly in size and stature, emerging as a leading tropical marine fisheries and mariculture research hub in the world. Presently, CMFRI has 11 Regional Research Centres, 17 Field Centres and 2 KVKs (Krishi Vigyan Kendras) under its wings and has been serving as a leading institute under the umbrella of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) since 1967. Displaying an unparalleled research acumen matched with extensive experience and unbridled commitment, the Institute has rendered 75 years of glorious service towards ensuring inclusive marine fisheries sustainability and augmenting marine fish production through mariculture.
