Abstract

This moderate-sized flatfish is widely distributed in deep-waters from Namibia to southern Somalia. It appears to be most abundant in temperate waters of Namibia and South Africa, where it is taken in multi-species sole and hake fisheries and as bycatch in other demersal trawl fisheries. Limited recent data are available regarding the population size and trends, but data from the 1990s suggested that the population was stable off Namibia and South Africa. Therefore, it is listed as Least Concern.
