Abstract
Theeranaipunya , the skill enhancement training and capacity building programme of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), is helping transform the lives of young fisherwomen. The initiative is ably backed by the Society for Assistance to Fisherwomen (SAF). A model initiative for women empowerment, Theeranaipunya focuses on the cognitive development of young fisherwomen in Ernakulam district to help them achieve better living standards. Under the project, a two-month training programme is offered to educated fisherwomen, along with stipend. It also aims to enhance their employability skills, said a statement from CMFRI on Sunday.
