Abstract
World aquaculture production ( 2013) was to the tune of 97 million metric tons worth USD 157 million, contributing to 43% of total world fish production. That Asia contributes to over 90% of aquaculture fish production of the world undoubtedly establishes the primacy of the fish farmers of Asia in addressing the food and nutritional security of fish mongers of planet Earth. The dominance of the Asian region is anchored upon the congenial climatic conditions and ecosystem diversity of the water bodies, availability of numerous candidate species, warm temperatures resulting in faster growth, high productivity of waters, entrepreneurship of fish farmers, reduced cost of inputs including labour and the ever increasing demand for fish.
