Abstract

The penaeoid prawns (Superfamily Penaeoidea) constitute a diverse group of marine decapods with over 400 species (Ma et al., 2009). Globally distributed, and inhabiting both shallow and abyssal zones below 5000 m, they occupy different trophic levels of the food chain at various depths in the ocean (Pérez Farfante and Kensley 1997). This group includes most of the prawns of high economic value that account for one-third of the annual wild crustacean catch
