    Abstract

Me/apenaews monoce/'os was reared from the egg to the postlarval stage in the laboratory at Narakkal. At the rearing temperature of 25.2° C to 27.0° C the viable eggs take 15-17 hours to hatch out; the duration of the nauplius stage is 44 to 60 hours; the protozoea takes 5 i to 7 i days to develop to mysis I; the mysis stage lasts for 9 to 12 days. Complete development from egg to post larva I takes 17 to 23 days. The larvae pass through 6 nagplius substages, 3 protozoea substages, and 6 mysis substages before reaching post larva I. All the larval stages are described and illustrated in detail and connpared with the earlier larval descriptions on this species.
