    Abstract

During the peak south-west monsoon period (July-August, 1991), the outbreak of a severe fish disease was reported from the fresh water fishes of Kerala state. The wide coverage given by local newspapers and national media, caused panic among the public. The fish trade virtually came to a stand still.
