Abstract
PDF is not complete Fisheries, particularly Marine Fisheries are receiving increased attention due not only to their importance in meeting the protein food requirements of the people but also due to their importance in national economy, employment generation and export trade. Such a situation naturally calls for increased attention of the Governments, Scientists, administrators, fishing industry and fisherfolk. Besides, this also offers challenges in the R&D efforts: on the one hand, there is need to find ways of increasing production from capture while intensifying efforts at optimizing the yields ofthe stocks that are exploited at near optimal-levels and, development, improvement and transfer of technologies for production through culture on the other. There is also need to have emphasis on the livelihoods of the communities solely dependent on fisheries.
