Abstract
The Institute conducted Fish Farmers and Fishermen Meet not only at the Headcjuarters, Cochin but also at most of the Research Centres regularly every month, to address their problems in seafarming, coastal ac\uaculture and capture fisheries. A large number of farmers, entrepreneurs and industrialists got benefited from these monthly Meets. Action has been initiated to accoutre suitable sites for the construction of laboratory buildings and hatchery-cum-growout complexes for mariculture. The government of Kerala allotted 1.7 acres of land close to the Vizhinjam Bay to construct laboratory buildings and seafarming facilities for the Vizhinjam Research Centre. A proposal was submitted to the government ofAndhra Pradesh for the allotment of 6.5 acres of land on long lease or outright transfer for the construction of similar facilities and also residential cjuarters at Kakinada. The government ofKarnataka agreed in principle to allot land at Karwar and Mangalorefor the construction of laboratory buildings and mariculture facilities. Similarly action has been initiated to obtain land for laboratory-cum-office building at Bombay from CIDCO or CIFE. Several proposals were submitted to various finding agencies in the frontier areas of marine fisheries and mariculture.
