Abstract

All round progress in the research programmes of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Station at Mandapam and its subordinate establishments has been maintained during the year 1952-53. These relate to (1) study of marine fishery resources of the country; (2) biology of mmrnerdally important groups of marine fishes; (3) introductory studies on salt-water fish farming; and (4) general marine biological studies relsting to production of life in the sea. The sardines and the mackerel, which constitute important fisheries of our coasts, received special attention at the Calicut and Karwar Centres.
