    Abstract

    In the following text special emphasis is The concept of biosphere reserve was mooted by UNESCO as early as 1971, in its Man and biosphere programme. UNESCO in larger global interests and with the idea of oneness of humanity transcending national frontiers, recognised the need for conservation of the worlds vanishing species and habitats. On that context, the man and biosphere programme committee in India started functioning under the direct patronage of Government of India and as much as 8 important areas have been brought under the category of biosphere reserves so far.
