Abstract

Kanyakumari district has a 67.59 km coastline comprising 43 fishing villages (December). with a total fishermen population of about 0.15 million of which about one third is actually engaged in fishing. The average annual pelagic fish landing of the district is about 19,851 tonnes, and of the catches about 50% of which being clupeoids.
