Abstract
Keeping fresh water aquaria as a hobby has become very popular all over the world. But keeping marine ornamental fish in home aquaria has caught up only in the amuent nations. The world trade in ornamental fish is worth about 5 billion US dollars. About 85 % of this is from the fresh water ornamental sector. India's share in this trade is worth about Rs. 10 crores and the entire deal is in freshwater ornamentals. It has been pointed out that India has a great potential in the export of marine ornamental fish.
