    Abstract

The annual marine fish landing in the five maritime disatricts of Maharashtra from 3 to 4 lakhs tonnes. About 20% of the total catch from mechanised sector. About 40% of total mechanissed catch is contributed by trawlers in the state. It is generally reported that catch per trawl unit is decreasing and simultaniously the acquisition cost of a trawler is increasing. Unit price of fish caught in a trawler also plays an important role to mark he level of profitability. Thus catch availability and its price at one hand and oerating and fixed cost of trawl operation on the other hand are the vital items to be studied to know the ecconomic viability of trawling
