Abstract
Colachel about 35 km northwest of Kanyakumari in the southwest coast, lies within the Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu., it has been an important fishing centre for traditional as well as mechanised fishery sectors, the latter being relatively recent. Trawlers operate from here during monsoon months in numbers varying from 20 to 250 per day depending on the catch trend.
