Abstract
Year to year fluctuations in marine marine prawn landings is a common feature in the recent years mainly due to the impact of various changes occurring in the environment and human interference (other than fishing). In India the prawn fishery depends on the two major habitats, viz. the sea and the estuaries. The physico-chemical properties of the environment, greatly governs the growth and breeding biology of prawns as in case of many other aquatic organisms. The present article enumerates the impacts of such environmental changes and human interference on the prawn resources.
