    Abstract

Majority of the fishermen of our coastal villages continue to be poor even though higher income has been generated among them by way of modernization of fishing crafts and gears, mechanisation of indigenous boats and introduction of synthetic nets. In this context, it was felt desirable to carry out case studies regarding the state of indebtedness of fishermen and utilization of finance given to them in order to find out the maladies and suggest remecSal measures in respect of credit facilities extended to them. The present account dealing with the state of indebtedness is in continuation of the earlier studies carried out.
