Abstract

Highlighting the importance of fisheries, Dr S. Ayyappan, former head of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research(ICAR), emphasized their crucial role in the "blue economy." This concept focuses on utilizing the ocean's resources responsibly for long-term development. Dr. Ayyappan, a recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri award for his scientific and engineering achievements, received an honorary fellowship from the Marine Biological Association of India (MBAI) during his visit to the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).
