    Abstract

A team of scientists at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has successfully decoded the entire genome of the Indian oil sardine, a popular food fish. This marks the first time that the genome of a marine fish species from the Indian subcontinent has been decoded, according to CMFRI. Dr. A. Gopalakrishnan, the Director of CMFRI, hailed this achievement as a significant milestone in the field of Indian marine fisheries. He underscored the importance of the decoded genome as a valuable tool for gaining insights into the biology, ecology, and evolution of the Indian oil sardine (Sardinella longiceps).
