Abstract

A total two specimens of male and female of Dactylopterids measuring 166.16 and 178.26 mm of standard length caught from commercial fishing trawler in 45–80 m depth at Tuticorin (8°14′59″ N 78°41′13″ E) and Kanyakumari coast (8°09′41″N, 77°56′12″ E) and Southeast coast of India. The specimen was identified as Dactyloptena macracantha (Bleeker, 1854) through by presence of bigger blotch over the pectoral fin; Lateral line extends up to caudal peduncle; no presence of spots on head and back. However, still now there is no proper report for D. macracantha in Indian coastal waters. That our Present finding can be used as a First record of D. macracantha from Indian coastal waters. The detailed morphometric and meristic characteristics are described and discussed in this paper.
