Abstract
Sustainable fishing, balancing the economic and livelihood needs as well as environmental concerns are key to a healthy marine ecosystem. Over the past few decades, climate change and related marine heat-waves have become disruptive, with signifi cant socio- economic ramifi cations. Hence it requires effective responses from all stakeholders, including researchers. Seaweeds are good for carbon sequestration as well as yield highly valued products and hence focussed under the fisheries development programmes of the Government of India.
