Abstract

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Ernakulam) of the Central Marine Fisheries Research In- stitute (CMFRI), as part of its commitment towards farmers, has adopted the new normal since Covid Pandemic at the start of 2020 and found ways to support the farmers in these difficult times. The lockdowns and restrictions imposed to contain the pandemic have affected the livelihood of many. The KVK shifted all its training programmes to online mode to continue educating farmers even during Covid time using Facebook, whats app groups and other online meeting platforms like google meet. In order to support agriculture and allied sector and to promote self sufficien- cy, even during covid restrictions following Covid protocols, important farmer partic- ipatory programmes were conducted in offline mode also. In addition, the satellite production centres, established in public-private partnership mode in farmer’s fields, produce quality vegetable & fruit planting materials , poultry chicks and fish finger- lings(Pearl spot) in large-scale and supply accordingly. Similarly all the KVKs throughout India are doing a commendable job by handholding the farmers/young entrepreneurs through this difficult pandemic phase. Such activi- ties and efforts surely needs to be documented. I believe the idea to document it in the form of KVK times, wherein all the important fortnightly activities of 48 KVKs of the ATARI zone XI are covered, will be an asset to showcase the important work done by the KVK fraternity.
