    Abstract

A study by Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) reveals that the availability of Sardines(mathi) in Kerala has seen a significant fall. Last year, a total of 3297 tonnes of sardines were fished. This means a decrease of 75 percent when compared to previous years. This is the most significant dip in the availability of sardines since 1994.
