Abstract
The institute research activities focus on sustainable harvest of marine fishery resources and augmentation of marine fish production by extending support for promoting mariculture activities in the country. In this context, Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems are the preferred technical option in marine hatchery systems which can give good results in fish breeding and seed production programmes. The development of an indigenous RAS facility by our scientists is noteworthy. Following success with breeding of pompano in this set-up, we can look forward to successes with other species of mariculture importance in the future. Collaboration with scientific institutes of repute such as Space Applications Centre to utilise imaging and satellite data for wetland conservation is aimed at an holistic development of the fisheries sector. Several training programmes and related technical support has been extended to various stakeholders. The institute looks forward to further strengthening these activities and endeavour for a vibrant marine fisheries sector in India.
