    Abstract

Climate change and its impacts on the earth and ecosystem are adverse and it‟s foreseen to be affecting the structure and functioning of the marine ecosystem. The changing climate events could also lead to species extinction, habitat loss and other threatening consequences over the marine ecosystem. Climate change, erratic monsoon, global sea-level rise, storms and cyclones remains at peril to our coastal communities. Almost four million fisher folk populations thrive in the coastal shoreline counties in India depending on marine fisheries as their source of livelihood. Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi (CMFRI) is a reputed ICAR organization which deals with various issues pertaining to fisheries and fisher folk. We as one of the leading national fisheries research body in the country are involved in studying the climate change impacts and its effects on the marine ecosystem, fish stock, harvesting sector, aquaculture, market and trade.
