Abstract
On 3rd February,2019, ICAR CMFRI celebrated the proud and glorious moment of its 72 Foundation Day. From its inception in 1947 as a Research Station based in Mandapam, of the erstwhile Madras State, it has emerged as a top marine fisheries research institute with centres located in all maritime states of India. The institute has a major role in ensuring the sustainability of the marine fishery resources through the promotion of responsible fishing and mariculture activities. The institute has contributed significantly in developing the National Marine Fisheries Policy 2017, which if implemented properly has the scope to increase marine fish production in quantity and value, benefitting all stakeholders.
