Abstract
Brainstorming session on seaweed resources and its culture potential in Andhra Pradesh was organized by Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of ICAR – Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute on 21st and 22nd of June, 2018. Dr. P. Kaladharan, Principal Scientist, CMFRI, Kochi and Dr. C. R. K. Reddy, formerly Principal Scientist CSMCRI and DBT Energy Biosciences Chair, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology were the Chief Guest for the programme. Dr. B. Johnson, Scientist, CMFRI Mandapam, Dr. Jesmi Debbarma, Scientist, CIFT Visakhapatnam, Prof. P. Yedukondala Rao, Head, Dept. of Marine Living Resources, Andhra University and Dr. Sekar Megarajan, Scientist, CMFRI Visakhapatnam spoke on the various issues associated with seaweed farming. Enterprising seaweed farmers of the state, most notably, Mr. Santosh and Mr. Raghusekhar shared their experiences of seaweed farming with feedback from the audiences. Mr. P. Koteswara Rao, Additional Director of Fisheries and Mr. Lakshman Rao, Assisstant Director of Fisheries, State Fisheries Department shared their views and experiences and spoke on the needs for the state. The plenary session was an open floor involving intense discussions on preparing a roadmap for promotion and expansion of seaweed farming in the state with specific set of recommendations intended for the State Fisheries department to implement. Mr. Loveson Edward, Scientist and Dr. Sekar Megarajan, Scientist of VRC of CMFRI organized the brainstorming session.
