Abstract
The institute is observing its Platinum Jubilee Year in 2017 and it is rightfully a moment to celebrate. The institute which was established in 1947, has developed a strong multidisciplinary approach to marine capture and culture fisheries and emerged as a leading tropical marine fisheries research institute in the world. Recently a new research centre was set up in Digha, West Bengal which can address the regional issues in the marine fisheries sector in a better and focused manner. Scientists of the institute have been involved in developing many products that can be used for societal benefits like mKrishi® Fisheries, GIS database on fish landing centres and nutraceuticals from seaweeds.
